ITINERARY DESCRIPTION

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN ARUSHA/ MOSHI

Arrive Kilimanjaro and transfer to Arusha / Moshi. The rest of the day is free to relax and recover from your flight.

DAY 2 :MOSHI/ARUSHA – MTO WA MBU

Early morning drive from Moshi/Arusha to the small but largely populated village of Mto wa Mbu, Kiswahili for River of Mosquitoes. The village is populated by almost 50 different tribes and has some of the most colorful and liveliest markets in Tanzania. In the 1960’s an ambitious irrigation project was started in order to turn what was predominantly swamp land into farm land and was a huge success. Today you will have a chance to experience this up-close, you will have a cycling tour through the banana plantations to Lake Manyara (without entering the National Park) where you can view some of the game and if water permits, you may have the chance to walk up close to the beautiful flamingoes. From there you will cycle back into town where your bicycles will be left and you will walk from here through the local irrigation systems and farm lands. You will be able to see the rice plantations, the enormous baobabs and have a traditional Swahili lunch provided by a local women’s group. This is a full day packed with culture, sights and amazing landscapes.

Accommodation options: Camping / Tented Camp / Lodge.

DAY 3: NGORONGORO CRATER VIA OLDUVAI GORGE TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast depart Mto wa Umbu en route Olduvai Gorge, known as the ‘Cradle of Mankind’. It was here, in the Great Rift Valley, that the remains of early hominids dating back 2 million years were uncovered. Afterwards, we visit the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world – Serengeti National Park. The word ‘Serengeti’ means ‘endless plains’, which describes the park’s 5,600 square mile boundary. Yet for its sprawling area, the Serengeti does not disappoint when it comes to rich game-viewing. The Serengeti ecosystem is one of the oldest on earth. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti National park.

Accommodation options: Camping / Tented Camp / Lodge.

DAY 4: A FULL DAY GAME VIEW IN THE SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast full game drive at Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti boasts one of the most varied collections of wildlife on the planet. Annually, from May to December, millions of animals embark on a migration which brings them from central Serengeti to Kenya’s Maasai Mara and back again in an incredible spectacle. Even during the ‘down-time’, vast herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle roam here, along with groups of elephant, giraffe, and buffalo, as the lions, leopard, cheetah, hyenas and jackals stalk their meals. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti national park.

Accommodation options: Camping / Tented Camp / Lodge.

DAY 5: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK TO NGORONGORO CRATER

After early breakfast depart from the Serengeti to visit the largest intact volcanic crater in the world, the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. At more than 2,000 feet deep and 12 miles in diameter, the Ngorongoro Crater has one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. 30,000 animals make their home in this crater, making it an ideal place for sightings of the ‘big 5’ – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard. This truly world-class attraction is also known as the ‘8th Wonder of the World’. Dinner and overnight at Mto wa Umbu.

DAY 6: NGORONGORO CRATER TO TARANGIRE TO ARUSHA

After breakfast depart to Tarangire National Park, for excellent game viewing. Tarangire is a small park which offers some excellent sights. Generally in the dry seasons Tarangire comes alive as wildlife and birdlife congregate on the Tarangire River, which is a permanent source of water. We spend the night in our lodge beautifully set inside the park with stunning views and a unique atmosphere. In the late afternoon we travel to Arusha.
